Sonos has launched the Roam SL portable AirPlay speaker that targets the lower end of the market with a lower price than its predecessor. Sonos had launched the Roam speaker that featured AirPlay2, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Qi charging supports. It also had a built-in microphone with a decent range of coverage. The latest Sonos Roam SL however skips the far-field microphone for a less expensive product.
In the heels of the launch of the Roam SL
portable AirPlay speaker, the company’s CEO has stated that consumers will see
several innovative offerings from its stable soon. The original Roam was priced
up to US$ 180 at a point but the latest model will cost less. It will be sold
at US$ 159 exclusively on Sono’s website. The first deliveries will take place
around mid-March while orders are being received currently.
The Sonos Roam SL features TruePlay
tuning, a 10-hour battery life, IP67 dust and water resistance, and optional
magnetic wireless charging. The Sonos Roam SL weighs just 0.43kg and it is
available in two colors – shadow black and lunar white.
Sonos CEO Patrick Spence has stated that
Sonos is focused on delivering two new products a year, although the details
are still kept secret. Sonos has also acquired T2 Software last month and the
re-energized company could come out with some innovative offerings and better
quality audio products. There is also mention of a Sonos patent application for
a Sonos Headset filed in Germany.
