Xiaomi is apparently working on the Redmi K80 smartphone. As the name suggests, the Redmi K80 is the successor to the K70 series, and now, a new leak hints that the device could launch in the brand’s home market of China soon.
The news arrives from known tipster Smart
Pikachu who shared the information on Weibo.
The tipster claimed that the work on the Redmi K80 series is seeing quick
progress. Smart Pikachu further added that the Chinese tech giant is also
shifting its strategy with the upcoming Redmi K80 lineup. Reportedly, Xiaomi
will now only focus on the flagship grade model and not the more affordable mid
range options.
In other words, the Redmi K80e could be
dropped from the K80 series. This means that only the base K80 and K80 Pro
would be announced in China, although, the tipster did not mention the higher
end Pro model in the online post. Interestingly enough, Smart Pikachu believes
that the “e” model could be transferred to another lineup altogether, which is
the Note series. If this is true, then Redmi may announce a Redmi Note 14e
variant.
Unfortunately, this was all the
information that was shared by the tipster. But just last week, we also covered
a report from another Weibo tipster, who claimed that the Redmi K80 and the
Redmi K80 Pro could be equipped with next gen Snapdragon processors. It remains
unclear if this is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 series chip or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4
since the smartphones are expected to launch sometime in late 2024.
