Micromax is making a return to the India smartphone market, with a launch already set for November 3. We are still a bit short on hardware specifics and even the exact models of the upcoming In phones are not officially confirmed. However, most rumors seem to point at a pair of devices, allegedly called the Micromax In 1 and In 1A. One with a Mediatek Helio G35 chipset and the other with a G85 one. Beyond all of the official teasers, at least one of the new phones has now popped-up in the wild, in an first-look YouTube video, featuring Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma.
Mr. Sharma was notably light in the
details department and didn’t even confirm the names of the upcoming phones,
nor which model he was holding in particular. However, other sources have
chimed-in suggesting that the Micromax In 1A was the one that made an on-camera
appearance.
Apparently, it will be the model rocking
the higher-end MediaTek G85, complete with what looks like a quad-camera setup
on the back, with a 48MP Quad-Bayer main snapper at the helm. Two color options
were showcased – Green and White, with the former clearly sporting the
particular “X” design pattern on its back, as also seen in teasers. The video
also offers a brief glimpse at the front of the device, showcasing a punch hole
selfie camera design. Not really a surprise either, since another official
teaser hints at the particular selfie arrangement as well.
Then there is yet another official image
from the Micromax Twitter account showing a total of three devices. Circling
back to an earlier Micromax leak and using some deduction here, it seems that
there will be at least two Micromax In variants built around the MediaTek G35.
If our naming assumptions hold up, one of which should be the vanilla Micromax
In 1. Beyond a chipset, the pair are said to share a 5,000 Mah battery pack and
both run stock Android. Differences allegedly include both memory configuration
– 2GB/32GB on one and 3GB/32GB on the other and accompanying main camera setup.
The lower-end model might be getting an 8MP selfie shooter on the front, with a
13MP primary camera on the back joined by a 2MP unit, while its sibling may
feature a total of four cameras - a 13MP camera on the front and a triple
camera setup on the back consisting of 13MP, 5MP and 2MP modules.
A rough price bracket for the upcoming
Micromax In lineup has also surfaced and allegedly starts at just INR 7,000
(US$ 95/€ 80) on the low end and goes up to 15,000 (US$ 205/€ 175). We’ll keep you
posted with further developments.
