Xiaomi has today announced that the company will be
launching its new flagship router in its home country China on 17th September.
From the poster shared by the company, it seems that the device will have
dual-band support and speed of up to 2100 Mbps.
The upcoming router is also expected to have support
for 802.11ac or 802.11ax. Apart from these, nothing much about the Xiaomi’s
flagship router is known right now. However, it remains to be seen if Xiaomi
adopts 802.11ax given that none of the company’s devices support this protocol.
Currently, the top-end router sold by the company on
its official online store is the Mi Router Pro/HD which comes with an all-metal
fuselage design, AC2600 dual-band, 4×4 omnidirectional antenna, 802.11ac,
support for MU-MIMO, four-port all-gigabit, as well as built-in 1TB hard drive. Earlier this year, in March,
Xiaomi had launched two routers — Mi Router 4A and the advanced Mi Router 4A
Gigabit, both of them being priced at 119 yuan (~$17) and 169 yuan ($25),
respectively.
Both of them provides two frequency bands of 2.4GHz
and 5GHz without mutual interference. The dual-band concurrent wireless
connection rate can reach up to 1167 Mbps. The 2.4GHz frequency band has longer
transmission, better coverage and better wall penetration performance. The 5GHz
frequency band uses 802.11ac technology, with less interference and high speed.
They both run MiWROM which is based on OpenWRT and offers deep customisation.
