Last month, HTC revived its Wildfire line in India.
It announced the Wildfire X, a mid-range phone powered by the Helio P22 chipset
and with triple rear cameras. Before the launch, other Wildfire phones such as
the Wildfire E and Wildfire E Plus were certified but only the Wildfire X was
announced.
A few days ago, Thailand’s NBTC certified an HTC
phone called the Wildfire R70. The certificate revealed the phone is
manufactured in Taiwan by HTC but it also lists Lava International (Thailand)
Company Limited as the operator.
The Wildfire X sold in India might have HTC’s name
on it but it isn’t technically HTC’s phone. The brand name is actually licensed
to InOne Smart Technology who own the Lava brand. We want to believe the same
applies to the upcoming Wildfire R70. It will come with HTC’s branding and get
listed on HTC’s website but all these are actually part of the agreement with
InOne (Lava).
The specs of the Wildfire R70 are currently unknown
but we expect more details will surface soon. Licensing a brand name isn’t a
new thing in the mobile industry. The Nokia brand is currently licensed to the
Finnish company, HMD Global Oy. The BlackBerry brand is (or is it was now) also
licensed to TCL and Optiemus Infracom.
