ZTE's nubia sub-brand just introduced
its latest flagship device - the Z20. It packs some serious hardware with the
latest Snapdragon 855+ chipset, up to 512 GB storage and secondary display
around the back.
The two screens can operate
independently, for quick-switching between apps. The rear screen also doubles
as an always-on display and can be custom mapped in games for added usability.
The phone runs nubia’s UI 7.0 on top of Android Pie. This is not the first time
nubia has outfitted its phones with two screens as last year’s nubia X also
offered this functionality. Still it's a very rare and exciting solution.
The main screen of the nubia Z20 is a
curved 6.42-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with minimal top and bottom bezels and no
front-facing camera. Thanks to the secondary 5.1-inch HD+ AMOLED panel you’ll
be able to shoot your selfies and do your video chats with the rear triple
camera array.
The primary shooter has a 48MP Sony IMX
585 sensor and OIS, while the other two units are a 16MP ultrawide angle and
8MP telephoto with 3X optical zoom. The cameras have a dual LED flash to keep
them company. It's worth noting that the phone is capable of shooting video at
up to 8K resolution (spoiler: 15fps only).
Under the hood the Z20 packs the latest
Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC with 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128/512GB UFS 3.0 storage.
The battery is 4,000mAh and supports 27W Fast Charging. The phone comes with
two fingerprint scanners located on the sides of the chassis, so no matter
which display you use there's always one in the right place. The sides of the
device are also pressure sensitive and can be squeezed to perform different
actions like toggling the assistant.
The ZTE nubia Z20 comes in Black, Blue
and Orange colors and is available for pre-order in China. Official sales are
scheduled to begin on August 16 while international availability is set for
September. The base version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage comes in at CNY
3,499 (US$ 497), there's also an 8/128GB variant for CNY 3,699 (US$ 525) while the
top spec'd 8/512GB unit will set buyers back CNY 4,199 (US$ 596).
