The latest addition in Fossil’s
portfolio is the Gen 5 smartwatch. It packs an updated spec sheet and new
battery modes which promise increased autonomy. The casing now comes with a
dedicated speaker alongside a microphone allowing you to make and take calls.
Interacting with the watch is done via
the 1.28-inch round OLED display. The casing features three buttons including a
rotating crown for seamless navigation through the OS and two separate
customizable buttons. The Gen 5 is available in a 44 mm size with Carlyle and
Julianna variants both of which feature stainless steel builds. It supports
interchangeable 22mm watch straps for easier personalization.
Under the hood, the Fossil Gen 5 packs a
Snapdragon 3100 chipset with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage. It features all the
standard fitness tracking modes and supports heart rate tracking, GPS, NFC,
WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2. The watch is also waterproof up to 3 atmospheres.
The Fossil Gen 5 is compatible with
Android 4.4 and iOS 9.3 and above. It's available on pre-order for $295 on
Fossil’s site and Amazon in the US, Europe and the Middle East. A wider release
will follow on August 26.
