In April this year, Nubia CEO Ni Fei had claim a 5G
test machine will be launched by the end of this year and a commercial 5G
device will be announced in 2019. Nubia has officially confirmed that it will
be holding a media event in Beijing on Dec. 10. The launch poster carries “dual
screen” and “5G” texts which suggests that the 5G edition of the Nubia X
smartphone will be announced on the said date.
The currently available Nubia X phone is
fueled by Snapdragon 845 chipset. In order to support 5G connectivity, the
Nubia X should be fueled by the recently announced Snapdragon 855 SoC that
includes X50 LTE modem.
Multiple smartphone manufacturers are gearing up to
launch 5G enabled smartphones in the coming year. OnePlus has recently
confirmed it will be launching a 5G phone at the beginning of the coming year.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G edition is slated to go official in the first quarter of
2019. Rumors have it that there will be a 5G version of the Samsung Galaxy S10.
OPPO and Vivo has also demonstrated the 5G live video calling on 5G editions of
Find X and Vivo NEX. These phones are all powered by Snapdragon 855 chipset.
Nubia X is equipped with a 6.26-inch IPS LCD FHD+
display on the front and a 5.5-inch OLED HD+ screen on the rear. The SD845
chipset is assisted by 8 GB / 6 GB of RAM. It comes in 256 GB / 128 GB / 64 GB
storage models.
The Nubia X has 16-megapixel + 24-megapixel dual
camera on the rear. The smartphone lacks support for microSD card, 3.5mm audio
jack and selfie camera. The handset is equipped with dual side-mounted
fingerprint scanners. The 3,800mAh battery of the phone supports Quick Charge
4.0. It is available with a starting price of 3,299 Yuan (US$ 479).
