Today, a
new leak reveals the Lenovo-owned company has yet another Android One
smartphone in the works.
The new device, dubbed simply Motorola One, looks
nearly identical to the One Power that has previously leaked, with only a few
subtle design changes that make it look slightly more premium. Starting up
front, the Motorola One retains the exact same notched design that’s present on
its sibling, with the aluminum frame also making a reappearance along with what
appears to be a micro USB port instead of the newer USB Type-C connector.
Additionally, the two bottom-firing speakers that are allegedly included on the
One Power seem to also be present on the regular variant.
However, when it
comes to the rear, quite a few differences are noticeable, the most obvious one
being the material – the aluminum body present on the Power edition is gone and
in its place is a sleeker glass build that suggests this device will be priced
slightly higher. Furthermore, the camera setup has also seen a slight redesign.
In fact, Motorola has removed the vertical module entirely and has instead
opted to place the two cameras sensors individually. Also, it’s worth noting
that the LED flash has gained a second tone which should improve night time
photography.
When comparing leaked renders, the two devices may
appear identical in size at first but it’s claimed that the Motorola One is
actually a smaller model, although it’s unclear if this means a reduction in
display size. Nevertheless, considering the One Power branding on the other,
it's likely that variant will focus more on battery life, thus resulting in a
thicker smartphone overall, while the regular Motorola One is expected to act
as the mainstream model.
Presently, it’s unclear when Motorola plans on
launching the two new devices, but they will presumably be jointly revealed
sometime this summer, with a huge focus on their stock Android interfaces.
Moreover, considering the brand has reportedly scrapped the Moto X5, and the
fact that the Motorola One sports a glass build, it wouldn’t be surprising to
see it act as an indirect successor to last year’s Moto X4.
