Following the release of the flagship LG G6 last
year, the South Korean company quickly followed up with a budget line dubbed
the LG Q6. This was then joined by an LG Q8 which was based on the LG V20. Now,
following the release of a new LG Q7 series, new certifications reveal LG is
also working on a successor to the LG Q8.
Dubbed the LG Q8+, two new variants of the
smartphone have surfaced on KCC listings over in South Korea, identified by the
model numbers LM-Q815S and LM-Q815L, with the existence of the pair being
further confirmed by Google Play. Now, at the moment, no specific details in
regards to what LG’s new device will offer are known, but a design based on the
LG V30 is extremely likely. If accurate, this means consumers can expect a new
18:9 display of roughly 5.5-inches in size and reduced top and bottom bezels.
Additionally, following in the footsteps of last year’s device, a dual-camera
setup on the rear is expected to make a return.
Moving on to the internal side of things,
considering last year’s smartphone shipped with the Snapdragon 820 on the
inside, the inclusion of the Snapdragon 821 in this year’s model would seem
like a natural step. Alternatively, though, LG could attempt to position the
smartphone as a direct competitor to Xiaomi's Mi 8 SE by featuring the new
Snapdragon 710. In either case, the LG Q8+ is expected to ship with 4GB of RAM
and 64GB of internal storage.
Presently, it’s unclear when exactly LG will choose
to unveil the smartphone, but if the brand decides to follow the same schedule
as last year, an announcement in late-July followed by shipments in August
would be the most likely scenario.
