Apple refreshes its 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros with the new M4 family of Apple Silicon while adding a new 12MP center stage camera and Thunderbolt 5. Apple introduced the MacBook Pro equipped with the 3nm M3 family of chips in late October of 2023. Visually, the new M4-equipped MacBook Pros are nearly identical to the previous generation. Now a year later, Apple has unveiled the new MacBook Pro built for Apple Intelligence and now available in Space Black and Silver finishes.
Alongside these new laptops, Apple
introduced the latest members of the M4 family of chips. The 14-inch MacBook
Pro starts with the base M4, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, and 16GB of unified
Memory. While the 14 and 16-inch models with M4 Pro and M4 Max offer Thunderbolt
5 for up to 120GB/s transfer speed. All models come with the Liquid Retina XDR
display with up to 1,000 nits peak brightness for SDR content and up to 1,600
nits for HDR content. Apple has upgraded the camera to a new 12MP Center Stage
camera which is rated for up to 24 hours of battery life.
Other features include an HDMI port, an
SDXC card slot, a headphone jack, a MagSafe 3 port, a Magic Keyboard with Touch
ID, and a Force Touch Trackpad. Included in the box are either the 70W or 96W
USB-C Power Adapter and a USB-C to MagSafe cable. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with
the base M4 chip starts with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16GB Unified Memory
and 512GB SSD storage. While the 16-inch MacBook Pro starts with an M4 Pro chip
with a 14-core CPU, 20-core GPU, 24GB Unified Memory and 512GB SSD
storage. Users can now configure their
own MacBook to have the Nanotexture display.
