The Redmi A4 5G was semi-announced last week, intended to be one of the cheapest 5G devices in India. Not just that, but it's the first model to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 platform, which was created specifically for entry-level 5G handsets. That's all well and good, but during the official semi-announcement, Redmi forgot to tell us anything about the price (or most of its specs). Luckily though, a new leak is here today to fill in the blanks. First, price. The A4 is said to go for INR 8,499 when all possible offers and discounts are included.
That's bargain basement pricing, coming in
at roughly US$ 100 at the current exchange rates. And this is a fully functioning
5G smartphone, mind you. The same source that gave us the price also says the
phone will have a 6.7-inch 90 Hz IPS touchscreen with HD+ resolution, 4GB of
RAM, 128GB of storage, a 50 MP rear camera, an 8 MP selfie camera, and a 5,000
mAh battery with support for 18W wired charging.
It will run Android 14 with HyperOS 1.0 on
top. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button.
The Redmi A4 is meant to finally make 5G accessible to all. We'll have to wait
and see how well it is able to fulfill that promise.
