The Redmi Pad SE launched last year with an 11-inch touchscreen, and now it looks like the Xiaomi sub-brand is readying a new tablet with a smaller display. The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 will, as its name implies, have an 8.7-inch screen, and it will also get 4G LTE mobile data connectivity, unlike the original Pad SE. The new device has been spotted in an IMEI database, which lists two model numbers: 24076RP19G and 24076RP19I. Those final letters are important - "G" tells us this will be available globally, and "I" means it will also be sold in India.
Interestingly, there's no third model
number with a "C" at the end, so the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G may not be
launching in China. The model numbers also imply a July launch might be in the
cards, but this is not a given. Either way, the new tablet should arrive in the
next few weeks. Its specs are still a mystery, but that may change in the very
near future.
There aren't many good Android tablets
with similar sizes, so this Redmi Pad SE 8.7 could prove to be a hit for those
who are still looking for affordable but decently-specced tablets that are
under 10".
