Last week a vivo VP said to expect an announcement about the S18 series on December 4. Today is the day, and we learned the lineup will be officially introduced on December 14. There will be three phones – an affordable S18e, a vanilla S18 with two cameras, and a vivo S18 Pro with the most impressive specs in the lineup.
Jia Jingdong, VP and GM of Brand and
Product Strategy at vivo, revealed the Pro variant will have a Dimensity 9200+
chipset and a 50 MP camera with a Sony IMX920 sensor, also seen in the recently
introduced flagship X100 smartphone.
The executive also said the basic vivo S18
will have the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, confirming previous rumors. Getting
back to the S18 Pro, it's also borrowing the 50 MP ultra-wide camera from the
X100 lineup, while the telephoto camera has a 12 MP sensor and f/2.0 lens with
2x optical zoom, seen in the vivo X90s.
Jia also posted some camera samples taken
with a vivo S18 smartphone. Here are three samples, but remember that they
might have some artifacts due to being posted on social media. The vivo S18 Pro
will have a 120 Hz screen, a 5,000 mAh battery in a thin body, and an in-house
generative AI called BlueLM. We expect to learn more about the series in the 10
days before the launch.
