Samsung's announcement frenzy continues with the Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic, the latter coming with a rotating bezel - the company’s most iconic feature in its wearables is making a return after going away for a year. They come in two sizes each, and all variants have an LTE option with an eSIM module.
The Galaxy Watch6 brings a number of
improvements compared to the Watch5. The minimalistic, more affordable member
of the new series lacks the rotating bezel, but it still has all of the new
functionality. The new wearable is actually ever so slightly smaller than its
predecessor, coming in 44 mm and 40 mm formats. However, thanks to a thinner
bezel, the screens are actually slightly larger at 1.5” and 1.3”, respectively.
The displays are the same in the Watch6 Classic, although the version with the
rotating bezel is sold in 47 mm and 43 mm sizes. All Galaxy Watch6 wearables
have a Super AMOLED screen with full-color AOD and sapphire crystal protection
on top.
These wearables come with a new Exynos
W930 chipset. It still comes with a dual-core CPU, but the top clock speed is
now 18% higher at 1.4 GHz. RAM also increased by 33% to 2 GB, with 16 GB
internal storage. The biggest improvement Samsung introduced in the Watch6 series
is actually on the software side. Thanks to the skin temperature sensors and
the heart rate monitor, the wearables will provide a more in-depth sleep
insight. The company also proudly announced the wearables are the only ones
that support the full health tracking suite - ECG, Heart rate & HR alert,
blood pressure, menstrual cycle prediction and fall detection.
The Watch6 supports Samsung Wallet (in
countries where it is available), and it can be used as a remote camera shutter
or to find the owner’s phone with an integrated map. Since there is WearOS for
Samsung, the wearables support Google and 3rd party apps. The Watch6 and Watch6
Classic feature 425 mAh batteries for the larger sizes (44 mm vanilla or 47 mm
Classic) and 300 mAh for the smaller ones (40 mm vanilla and 43 mm Classic).
The devices are also IP68 certified, can be submersed into water up to 50 m
(5ATM), and are MIL-STD-810H graded.
Samsung Galaxy Watch6 is available in
Graphite (both sizes), Silver (44 mm only), and Gold (40 mm only). Prices begin
from £ 289/US$ 299 and reach £ 369/US$ 329 for the LTE-supporting larger wearable.
Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic is selling in Black and Silver. The most
affordable version is £ 369/US$ 399, and the cost can go up to £ 459/US$ 429.
Pre-orders are starting today and the watches will be available on August 11.
