A couple of days ago, Redmi's Indian arm started its teaser campaign for the Redmi 12, which is launching in the country on August 1. The phone has been out in some markets since mid-June, but for some reason it's taking its sweet time in reaching India. Anyway, we're still weeks away from the proper unveiling, which means there's plenty of time for teasers. Lots of teasers. Today, Redmi revealed through its official Twitter account that the Redmi 12 would get a new hue for the Indian market. It's called Moonstone Silver and, in the brand's own words, it's "a stunning colorway that's unique and glorious".
Once again, the "crystal glass
design" of the upcoming smartphone is emphasized, since a glass back isn't
generally something expected at this price point. That said, we have to once
again bring up the surprising number of similarities between the Redmi 12 and
the Redmi 10 from 2021. Sure, the design is different, but otherwise... it's
almost like they're very close siblings - so that may be why Redmi chooses to
constantly remind us of the glass back and isn't teasing much more.
The brand has also released a quick teaser
video, and wouldn't you know it, it's all about design. Go figure! This one
takes us through some of the more important design language iterations in the
Redmi numbered series across the years, and - you guessed it! - it all
culminates with the Redmi 12.
The phone, which will be promoted by
actress Disha Patani, has a 6.79-inch 1080x2460 90 Hz LCD touchscreen, the
MediaTek Helio G88 SoC at the helm, 4/8GB of RAM, 128/256GB of eMMC 5.1
storage, a triple rear camera system (50 MP main, 8 MP ultrawide, 2 MP macro),
an 8 MP selfie snapper, and a 5,000 mAh battery with 18W wired charging
support. It runs Android 13 with MIUI 14 on top.
