The Honor Play 40 is powered by the same Snapdragon 480+ chipset as the Play 30. This time, however, it has better memory configurations: 6/128GB, 8/128GB and even 8/256GB. You can add up to 5GB of virtual RAM on top of that. Also, it launches with MagicOS 7.1 (based on Android 13), whereas its predecessor came with Android 11.
The display is essentially the same as
before, a 6.56” LCD with 720 x 1,612px resolution (just over 20:9 aspect
ratio). It has a 90Hz refresh rate and a notched 5MP selfie camera at the top. The
rear camera features a 13MP main module with 1080p video recording and a 2MP
depth sensor (this sensor is a new addition, but we would have preferred an UW
lens).
Moving on, the battery is slightly larger
with a 5,200mAh capacity (200mAh up), but it still only supports basic 10W
charging. Besides the USB-C port, there is also a 3.5mm headphone jack and the
phone carries Hi-Res Audio certifications (both wired and wireless).
Really, the biggest upgrade here is the
new look with four color options. The camera island is flat, but it stands out
with a different surface finish (the camera lenses do protrude, though) and
there is a sparkly ring around the “AI camera” label. The Honor Play 40 is
already available through Honor’s online store in China. The base 6/128GB model
is priced at CNY 1,380 (US$ 190/€ 175/₹ 15,700).
