In May, Vivo unveiled the Vivo S15 and S15 Pro smartphones in China. These phones have remained exclusive to the home market. Recent reports have claimed that the company is now prepping up the Vivo S16 series. There could be three models in the line-up: the Vivo S16, the Vivo S16 Pro, and the Vivo S16e, which is the most basic variant.
In a recent Weibo post, Chinese tipster
Digital Chat Station revealed that the upcoming Vivo S-series phones will be
equipped with the Snapdragon 870 chipset and the forthcoming Dimensity 8200. To
recall, the vanilla Vivo S15 came equipped with the Snapdragon 870. It appears
that the same SoC will power its successor. The Dimensity 8200 is expected to
debut in the coming months as the successor to the Dimensity 8100, which is
currently under the hood of the Vivo S15 Pro. So, it looks like the Dimensity
8200 chipset will be used to power the Vivo S16 Pro.
Other reports have claimed that the Vivo
S16e will be powered by the Dimensity 1080 chipset. Unfortunately, the other
specifications of the Vivo S16 series have not surfaced yet. The Vivo S16 is
likely to come in black, blue, and purple colors, while the Pro model will be
available in shades like black, green, and orange gold. It is speculated that
the Pro variant will come equipped with the Vivo V1+, which will offer an
enhanced photography experience.
As far as the launch of the Vivo S16
series is concerned, it appears that the company may announce it in the early
months of 2023. Rumors are rife that Vivo
will unveil the Vivo X90 series of smartphones in December this year. The
lineup is expected to feature the Dimensity 9200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
chipsets as well as a 1-inch camera sensor.
