Motorola Moto G72

The Motorola Moto G72 launched in India on October 3 and now it’s time for a European tour. The phone will be available in select countries on the Old Continent soon with an MSRP of € 260. The G72 has been built for media consumption with its 6.6” P-OLED display (FHD+ resolution, 20:9), a 10-bit panel with HDR10+ support. There are two speakers with Dolby Atmos, Atmos is also supported if you plug headphones into the 3.5mm jack.

The display can run at 120Hz for a smooth UI, but the Helio G99 isn’t quite up to 120fps gaming. The 6nm chipset (TSMC) has 2x Cortex-A76 cores (2.2GHz) and 6x A55 (2.0GHz), plus a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. The chipset is paired with 6 to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB storage (UFS). The phone has a hybrid card slot so you can add more storage or a second phone line. The Helio G99 supports cameras up to 108MP and this phones makes full use of that.

Motorola did indeed pack a 108MP sensor with 0.64µm pixels and support for 9-in-1 binning. This camera can record 1080p video at 60fps and together with the ultra wide cam it can be used to calculate depth info for portrait shots. Speaking of, the ultra wide camera on board has an 8MP sensor (1.12µm). Next to it is a 2MP macro cam. Around the front is a 16MP selfie camera (f/2.45, 1.0µm), this one can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps. Also on the front is the in-display fingerprint reader.

Be it for long streaming marathons or long gaming sessions, the Moto G72 can last a quite while thanks to its 5,000mAh battery. It comes bundled with a 33W charger (technically the phone tops out at 30W) and a USB-C cable, plus a protective case and there is even a headset included for some countries. Note that the USB port only supports 2.0 speeds. Additional connectivity features include Wi-Fi 5 (ac), Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC.

Typical for Motorola, this phone has a water-repellent design, which earned it an IP52 rating (for water but also dust resistance). The phone is available in Meteorite Grey, Mineral White and Polar Blue.
