The time for experiencing a compact Samsung Galaxy Book with ChromeOS and decent specifications is finally coming. The Korean firms are gearing up to introduce a new device carrying the Galaxy Chromebook Go moniker. The device is rumored to be revealed very soon and today some of its key specifications have emerged.
The new Galaxy Chromebook Go will feature a Silver-ish exterior, that we have to say looks more like white. In counterpart to the external part, we have an internal part that is entirely black, down to the keyboard. We believe that some would prefer more “screaming” colors, but Samsung wants to keep a sober approach at least for now. After all, this may be just a particular colorway and the company can reveal other editions in the future. The device clearly is an entry-level device, so we can make out from the renders that it is made of polycarbonate.
Coming back to the specifications, the Galaxy Chromebook features a 14-inch display with a TFT HD screen with 1,366 x 768 pixels resolution. This kind of resolution is common among mid-range and entry-level notebooks. Some will prefer FHD, but at this pricing point, we can ask too much. In terms of processing power, Samsung will bet on the Intel Celeron N4500, one of Intel’s new Jasper Lake processors announced earlier this year. It has a 6W TDP which should translate to low power consumption and incredible battery life.
The laptop will come in variants with 4 GB and 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM versions. In terms of storage, it will come with 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of eMMC storage. Of course, users will be served with a microSD card slot in case they need more storage. There are also two USB-C ports, a USB 3.2 port, a Nano security slot, and a headphone plus microphone combo jack. The LTE version will also have a nano-SIM slot. The Galaxy Chromebook Go will also sport Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, a 720p webcam, and stereo speakers. The device packs a 42.3Wh battery that charges via a 45W Type-C charger.
We expect a proper announcement to go along with details of pricing and availability will be made soon. However, the entry-level variant will likely go under US$ 350. Of course, we can also expect it to go towards the US$ 299 price due to the HD panel, for the 32GB of storage. The LTE version will likely be restricted to the variant that ships with more RAM and storage.
