Microsoft’s Surface line includes both
traditional laptops and 2-in-1s. The Surface Go 2 is practically the cheapest
Surface computer and it starts at US$ 399. It has now been reported that Microsoft
is working on a new Surface Laptop that will be more affordable than existing
models.
According to WindowsCentral, Microsoft has
a new mid-range Surface Laptop in development called “Sparti” that will be
targeted at students. Their sources have informed them that the notebook will
have a 12.5-inch screen and its base model will ship with a 10th-gen Intel Core
i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. Sparti is expected to sit
between the Surface Go and Surface Pro with respect to pricing, so its price
should fall between US$ 399 and US$ 749. It is speculated to cost about US$ 500 with
higher configurations entering US$ 600.
The source adds that even with the
affordable price tag, Microsoft has not cut corners with respect to quality
which means we should expect similar build quality to other Surface products.
The notebook is also said to be lightweight and compact.
Microsoft is expected to announce a slate
of new products next month and “Sparti” may be among them making it available
in time for the holidays.
