Xiaomi-backed Redmi has today
officially launched its new router in its home country China — Redmi AX5 Wi-Fi
6 router. This also marks the launch of the company’s first Wi-Fi 6 router.
The Redmi AX5 Wi-Fi 6 Router is priced at
229 yuan which roughly converts to us$ 32. The device will be up for pre-orders in
China from 10th June, i.e. tomorrow at 10:00 AM local time and will soon be
available for purchase.
The new router comes with four independent
signal amplifier antennas, increasing the signal strength by 4dB and increases
the coverage by 50 percent. As per the company, it can download an HD movie in
just eight seconds, at 1775Mbps speed, which is about 52 percent faster than
Wi-Fi 5.
It also comes with support for Mesh
Networking and Mixed Networking with Xiaomi’s own Wi-Fi 6 routers. For those
who are unaware, Xiaomi has so far launched two Wi-Fi routers in the market
this year — Mi Router AX1800 and Mi AIoT Router AX3600.
This Redmi AX5 Wi-Fi 6 Router comes
powered by the Qualcomm‘s penta-core enterprise-class chipset, manufactured
using the 14nm node process. It also includes an independent NPU for
hardware-level acceleration.
The company has also confirmed that the
device is optimized to connect with 128 devices, including smart home products.
It’s also safe to assume that the settings on the router can be controlled or
adjusted using a smartphone application.
