Sony has revived and updated the beloved
Walkman with modern features like WiFi and Music streaming features for its
40th anniversary! Sony is banking on nostalgia and will be bringing back the
Walkman with updated features for 2020. The new Walkman will come in the
standard NW-A105 and the Limited edition NW-A100TPS.
The new walkmans are made of a rigid
aluminum frame that houses a large 3.6-inch 1280 x 720 TFT display. On the
right of the device are the power button, the volume buttons, playback buttons, and the hold switch. While
at the bottom is a Stereo mini-jack and a MicroSD card slot with support for
both micro SDHC and micro SDXC.
Sony says that the new Walkman has a
built-in Vinyl Processor that the company claims will add a warmer character to
the digital tracks and will allow listeners to enjoy rich reproduction of the
low-frequencies.
It connects wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.0,
NFC, and WiFi and it charges with a built-in Lithium-ion battery that charges
via USB Type-C. It is rated for up to 20 hours of MP3 128kbps continuous
playback or up to 24 hours of FLAC 192kHz/24bit playback. Under the hood is
Android 9.0 with a retro Cassette Tape UI. It supports Digital Noise
Cancellation that comes in Full-Auto AINC, Bus/Train mode, Airplane mode, and
Office mode. It supports High-Resolution Audio and High-Resolution Audio
Wireless (3x the bit rate of the Standard Bluetooth).
