Chinese
phone maker Huawei just brought back to the market a product that doesn’t have
much to do with smartphones, yet claims to be “smart”. We’re indeed talking
about the Huawei EyeWear Smart Glasses Limited Edition produced in
collaboration with the brand Gentle Monster.
Huawei’s
EyeWear smart glasses line was first announced in April of this year. The
series included five models: Smart East Moon 01, Smart Jack Bye 01, Smart South
Side 01, Smart Alio 01, and Smart Alio C1. With the first two being smart
sunglasses and the last three being smart prescription glasses. Price wise, the
South Side 01 were announced for 1999 yuan (US$ 280), meanwhile the remaining four
would cost 2499 yuan (US$ 355). Moving
forward to today, the smart glasses Smart East Moon 01, Smart Alio 01 and Smart
Alio C1 finally go on sale; costing as much as it was announced back in April.
Huawei
and Gentle Monster’s smart glasses use a minimalist design without any physical
buttons. The antenna, charging module, dual microphone, chipset, speaker and
battery are integrated in the frames. Additionally it’s possible to replace the
lenses later on.
The
glasses have a built-in voice assistant, and the user can answer calls by
double-tapping the frame. At the same time, Huawei’s smart glasses also come
with a charging bag. So you can just place the glasses inside the bag to
wirelessly charge them. They’re also the world’s first device to support NFC
contactless charging.
Finally,
Huawei’s EyeWear smart glasses are IP67 waterproof and dustproof. They supports
Bluetooth and have an USB Type-C port for charging. Users get a 20 hours
standby time while with calling/music time autonomy goes down to 2.5 hours.
