Vivo could be planning to release a new smartphone
(Vivo StarX) until the end of this year. According to reports, the Chinese
giant has recently filed a “StarX” trademark in the database of the European
Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
Interestingly enough, the trademark filing is under
“Class 9” category. This category is commonly used for smartphones, apart from
tablets, computers, and other mobile-related products. Besides that, the
Chinese firm has also registered the “Domix” and “Frista” monikers under the
same class/category.
The trademark filing suggests that there could be a
future Vivo smartphone with any of the aforementioned names. Unfortunately,
these trademarks don’t reveal anything else about the devices such as
specifications. For now, we can only speculate that Vivo is preparing these
names for a possible smartphone release. The patents were filed for application
back in September and are currently under examination by the regulatory
authority.
As for current releases, Vivo is quite busy with the
upcoming release of the Vivo iQOO Lite, a slightly lesser variant of the iQOO
gaming device. However, it still ships with the powerful Snapdragon 855 SoC. In
addition, it has recently released the Hexa-Camera smartphone Vivo V17 Pro in
India during the last month. However, we know that if the company decides to
come up with a new smartphone launch it has plenty of time until the end of
2019.
Let’s see which of these names, if not them all,
will actually make into a final product. What do you think about the Vivo StarX
name? Or perhaps Vivo Domix? Do you think these actually are good names for
smartphones? Perhaps, Vivo could also only use these names as internal
codenames, but only the time will tell.
