Huawei is releasing its Mate 30 series later this
week. We expect at least the Huawei Mate 30 and the Mate 30 Pro to be
announced, but there is a third phone in tow - Huawei Mate 30 RS Porsche
Design. The device’s arrival was announced by Richard Yu, CEO at Huawei and we
expect it to be quite different than its regular siblings.
The short eight-second clip suggests we should
expect a back panel with vertical design elements. We also see a thin cutout,
meaning the camera lineup on the back is likely to be in a different shape than
the expected circular setup.
It is not unusual for the Porsche-themed devices to
be different than the regular Huawei smartphones. The Huawei Mate RS Porsche
Design came with a triple camera in the center, although it arrived alongside
the P20 family which had its shooters on the side. The Mate 10 had its cameras
lined up properly, but the horizontal design element was replaced by a vertical
stripe with the Porsche Design logo.
Specs-wise, we know pretty much nothing about the
phone. We can only speculate it will have Kirin 990 chipset, 12 GB RAM and up
to 512 GB storage - or even 1 TB. However, the Porsche Design smartphone is for
consumers willing to demonstrate their wealth, meaning the branding of the
handset is a bit more important than what’s ticking inside.
