Xiaomi has
officially unveiled its latest Redmi series phone - the Redmi Y3 alongside the
Redmi 7 in India. The two smartphones are basically identical apart from the
selfie department.
The Y3 features a 32MP selfie cam, the highest on
any Xiaomi device. The phones also comes with the brand’s new Aurora design
language with its subtle curves and dual Gorilla Glass 5 build with a gradient
back. Xiaomi is positioning the Y3 as the ultimate selfie machine and is
pricing its aggressively to compete in the budget segment.
On the front, both the Y3 and Redmi 7 come with a
6.26 IPS HD+ water drop notch display with a TUV certified blue light filter.
For the Y3 the notch features the 32MP front camera which packs AI scene
detection, 80-degree field of view and EIS for video stabilization. The Redmi 7
substitutes it with an 8MP front shooter. The back on both phones features
a Gorilla Glass 5 layer and packs a 12MP main camera and 2MP depth sensor.
Below the cameras, we have the LED flash and on its right the fingerprint
reader.
Xiaomi is boasting its new Aurora design, which
features a gradient color combo and shifts its color depending on the lighting. Inside, both devices are powered
by the Snapdragon 632 processor with your choice of 3GB or 4GB RAM alongside
32/64GB storage for the Y3. Storage is expandable up to 512 GB thanks to the 2
+ 1 card slot.
The battery on both phones is 4,000mAh and comes
with a 10W charger. Both are splash proof thanks to the P2i hydrophobic
coating, which a rarity on Xiaomi phones and certainly a step in the right
direction. Other extras include a 3.5mm headphone jack (if you can count it as
an extra) and IR blaster. The new Redmi devices will come in Black, Blue, and Red colors.
The Redmi Y3 will start at INR 9,999 (US$ 145) for the
base 3/32GB version, while the 4/64GB variant will come in at INR 11,999
(US$ 170). The Redmi 7 will be available a day earlier in 2/32GB and 3/32GB
configurations starting at INR 7,999 (US$ 115).
Sales start April 30 on Xiaomi’s site as well as
online retailers around the country.
