Last July, Sony
revealed the 48MP IMX586 sensor with 0.8μm pixel size. Samsung followed it up
last October when they announced the ISOCELL Bright GM1 with 48MP as well. The
first smartphone that could come with either is from Xiaomi.
Earlier, Lin Bin,
the president of Xiaomi shared teaser image on Weibo showing a back of
smartphone with a 48MP primary camera at the top left corner. It also showed
that it will have a dual-tone LED flash.
The said sensors
combines four pixels to work as one to increase light sensitivity and improved
low light performance. The 48MP camera could also offer better zoom performance
and better overall image quality.
It could be
Xiaomi's bet against the 40MP primary camera of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and P20
Pro. There are speculations that it could be Snapdragon 675 powered smartphone
of Xiaomi early next year.
