After a veritable surge of Pixel 3 Lite leaks back in
November, the rumor mill has been surprisingly lacking on info regarding
Google's alleged midrange phone. Still, the "leakster" community
appears adamant that at least one or maybe even two such Pixel Lite handsets
are indeed in the pipeline and inching towards a release. Last we heard any
news on the matter, it was in the shape of a pair or fairly derailed 3D
renders.
Now, a fresh new leak brings more of the same, but
with a slight twist. The source on this new set of CAD creations is allegedly a
case manufacturer. And some of those often have access to early dummy units, or
at the very least detailed device dimensions so as not to waste time and
potentially resources crafting products.
Now, that being said, it is totally up to you to
decide if and just how much to trust this alleged representation of what is
said to be the Google Pixel 3 Lite. The overall design and relative proportions
of chins and bezels to screen do seem to match previous leaks. The same goes
for the rear single camera setup and fingerprint placement, as well as the side
power button and volume rockers. The 3.5mm audio jack on the top frame and pair
of grills on either side of the Type-C port on the bottom also appear to be in
familiar locations.
That being said, we can't help but notice that this
new render shows a single color back, as well as a pair of selfie cameras on
the front of the device. Whereas most previous rumors have typically only stuck
to the idea of one selfie snapper. Still, seeing how Google's alleged goal with
the Lite is to bring its excellent computational photography experience to a
more affordable device, it would make perfect sense to transfer both the main
12MP and the pair of 8MP snappers to its new phone. And only then worry about
cutting costs and slashing specs in other places.
Speaking of which, as far as we currently know, the
Pixel 3 Lite will have the same 5.5” screen as the actual Pixel 3 smartphone.
The new device will be 151.3 x 70 x 8.2 mm big, with the thickness jumping to 9
mm with the camera bump. The screen will be HD+ in resolution resolution and in
an 18.5:9 tall ratio. Internals should include a Snapdragon 670 chipset, 4GB of
RAM, 32/64GB of storage and a 2,915 mAh battery.
As for the even more elusive Pixel 3 Lite XL. It is
said to pack a 6-inch, Full HD+, extra-tall aspect display, slightly smaller
than the 6.3 on the Pixel 3 XL. The main difference, being, the lack of a
notch. It could also get a slightly more potent chip than its other
"Lite" sibling in the Snapdragon 710 and likely a bump up in battery
capacity as well. The camera setup should remain unchanged.
