The Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 also got new versions at the
Nokia Moscow event. Both phones which will go buy the Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1
monikers come with 18:9 displays. The Nokia 3.1 comes with a bigger 5.2-inch
screen but is just a tad taller than its predecessor thanks to its reduced
bezel and 18:9 display screen ratio. The device should be smaller but the lower
bezel doesn’t seem to have been cut at all.
The 5.2-inch screen has a 1440 x 720 resolution and
is covered with Gorilla Glass. There is a MediaTek MT6750N processor clocked at
1.5GHz under the hood. It is paired with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of
expandable storage. The Nokia 3.1 has a 13MP f/2.0 rear camera and an 8MP f/2.0
front-facing camera with an 84.6° field of view. For connectivity, there is
Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The
phone also comes with a 2990mAh battery.
Unlike the first-gen Nokia 3, the Nokia 3.1 launches
under the Android One program. This shouldn’t be surprising as HMD Global
already announced following the launch of the Nokia 8 Sirocco that future Nokia
phones will be Android One phones. The Nokia 3.1 will come in Blue Copper,
Black Chrome, and White Iron. It will sell for € 139 and € 169 for the 2GB and
3GB variants respectively and goes on sale this month.
The Nokia 5.1 comes with a 5.5-inch screen with a
Full HD+ resolution. It measures 151.1 x 70.73 x 8.27 mm making it just a tiny
bit taller than the first-gen model. Powering the Nokia 5.1 is a MediaTek MT6755S
octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. Depending on the model, you either get
2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage or 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There is
storage expansion available.
A 16MP sensor with PDAF sits at the back of the
device and an 8MP camera is positioned above the display. The new aspect ratio
has resulted in Nokia moving the fingerprint scanner to the back of the device.
It now sits below the camera setup. The Nokia 5.1 has a 3000mAh battery, a
USB-C port, and a single speaker. It also runs the latest version of Android
Oreo out of the box. Just like the Nokia 2.1 and Nokia 3.1, the Nokia 5.1 is
also an Android One phone.
It will be available in Copper, Tempered Blue, and
Black. It will go on sale in July for € 189 and € 219 for the 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM
versions respectively.
