The latest developer version of iOS, iOS 12 beta 2,
contains references to four Apple Watch models that we have never seen before
and this clearly indicates that Apple is getting ready to launch the new models
of its wearable in the not so distant future. The finding comes from 9to5Mac's
Guilherme Rambo, a developer that has given us sneak peeks at leaked details
about future devices coming from Apple's own source code in the past.
The new models mentioned in iOS 12 beta 2 are
Watch4,1, Watch4,2, Watch4,3 and Watch4,4. These are identifiers for a new
generation of Apple Watch devices and this becomes clear when you look at the
current Watch3,1 through Watch3,4 identifiers. Additionally, this beta contains
references to model numbers for the new devices, including the model numbers
MTUD2, MTUK2, MTX92 and others.
Apple is expected to unveil its new generation of
Apple Watches at its massive September event when it also announces its new
iPhones. This year, we expect to see three new iPhones, all featuring the
edge-to-edge notch screen first introduced with the iPhone X. Rumors suggest
that there will be a model with an LCD screen and a more affordable price, a
successor the current X, as well as a new larger-screen super premium model
with an even higher price and possibly some advanced new camera features. As to
the Apple Watch, the new models this year are expected to retain the same
physical size, but have smaller bezels and a 15% larger display in the same
body.
