One of the most frustrating parts of buying a new
car is coming to the realization that, within a few years, your onboard tech
will be out of date. Thankfully, if you own a Ford or Lincoln built between
2010-17, a lot of that frustration can now be bypassed thanks to the new
FordPass SmartLink.
Simply by installing this dongle into your car’s OBD
II port, your car becomes instantly smarter via a Verizon LTE connection –
including giving it smartphone connectivity and FordPass app compatibility, as
well as doubling as a WiFi hotspot. That also means that, remotely, you’ll be
able to unlock your doors, start your engine, track the car via GPS, and more.
It should be available to Ford & Lincoln owners sometime later this year
for US$ 17 a month plus installation.
