We know Xiaomi mostly due to their high quality yet
affordable mobile phones, laptops and so on, but the Chinese giant is much more
than that. As some of you will know, the company also runs crowdfunding
campaigns to create products that wouldn’t otherwise see the light of day. The
latest example is the recently funded Xiaomi iDol drone born from the
collaboration with Funsnap.
What makes the iDol drone really special is the
inclusion of AI technology to make the flying experience as smooth and easy as
“humanly” possible. The drone is indeed able to follow users automatically, so
you don’t even need to use the application to grab some pretty good footage of
you or your friends. It comes with a GPS
module, optical sensor, a barometer and a latitude sensor to keep the drone
steady in the air, which will become quite handy when you decide to take
advantage of the 120-degree adjustable camera to snap photos and record videos.
The built-in camera on the Idol drone will be able
to record 1080p FHD videos at 30fps, meanwhile the live video feed streaming to
your phone or tablet will be at 720p resolution.
Xiaomi’s iDol drone is made of PVC and it is
foldable. The quadcopter is compact as well with its dimensions being 226 x 144
x 48 mm and a weight of just 360 grams, which makes it a great drone to carry
pretty much anywhere. The built-in 1800mAh capacity battery will power the
drone for about 10 minutes of fun in the sky.
The Xiaomi/Funsnap iDol drone has been announced
with a price tag of 899 Yuan (around US$ 140).
