An unannounced Blackberry phone has just received
both the Wi-Fi Alliance and the Bluetooth SIG certification, which are both
indications that the device might soon see the light of the day. The approval
from both Wi-Fi Alliance and Bluetooth SIG goes to three variants of an
unannounced Blackberry phone with the model number BBF100-6, BBF100-2, and
BBF100-1. The model number corresponds to that of the Blackberry “Athena” and
the BlackBerry KEY2 which recently passed through TENAA.
Asper the Bluetooth listing, all three variants of
the Blackberry Key2 will support Bluetooth 5.0, while only the variant with the
model number BBF100-6 will support at least 19 different LTE bands. Wi-Fi
alliance on its part has confirmed the device will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo
out of the box as well as supports Wi-Fi networks running on both the 2.4GHz
and the 5GHz frequencies.
The Blackberry Key2 is expected to come with a few changes in terms of
the design, first is the device will be sporting a dual camera setup, paired
with dual-LED flash – the first in any BlackBerry devices. And while the
Keyboard has also been given a slight touch, the Blackberry Athena as per the
images will sadly have all the controls – including the volume rocker,
convenience key, and power button on the same side. The device will come with a
4.5in 1620×1080 display with the retro keys below it and under the hood, you’ll
find the Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor coupled with 6GB of RAM
and 64GB of storage.
Despite these certifications, we are still not sure
when the device would be made official, so we are left with no option than to
wait until we get an official statement from TCL.
