In February and March, we showed you a pair of
renders for a couple of new handsets that were reportedly being prepped by
BlackBerry licensee Optiemus. If the renders are legit, both the BlackBerry
Ghost and the BlackBerry Ghost Pro will be two of the sexiest BlackBerry phones
ever produced. The two devices each feature an edge-to-edge screen and an
aspect ratio of 18:9. Neither render shows off a fingerprint scanner, which
means that the biometric reader is on the back of the phone, or (less likely)
embedded under the display.
While Optiemus never confirmed the existence of the
Ghost and Ghost Pro, the company's executive director, Hardip Singh, said in an
interview that Optiemus will be coming out with a whole range of BlackBerry
models starting this quarter with the release of two handsets. Could these two
be the BlackBerry Ghost and BlackBerry Ghost Pro? The two new phones will be
aimed at consumers in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, and will come
with the DTEK security feature and BlackBerry Hub.
Optiemus hopes to grab a 10%-12% market share in the
price segments at which it will sell its BlackBerry handsets. The company could
also produce a line of BlackBerry branded accessories including a wireless
charger.
Just yesterday, U.S. BlackBerry fans were heartened
to see a render for the BlackBerry "Athena," which apparently is the
code name for sequel to the BlackBerry KEYone. Last month, accessories for the
BlackBerry KEYone 2 appeared online.
It appears as though three new BlackBerry models
could soon be unveiled including a sequel to the BlackBerry KEYone, the
BlackBerry Ghost and the BlackBerry Ghost Pro.
