It's hard to believe that Samsung is considering
changing the naming scheme of its flagship lineup after so many years, but
people are talking so there's a slight possibility that this might really
happen.
Apparently, sources from South Korea claim the
Galaxy S9 flagships that will be launched this year will be the last ones to
wear the Galaxy S brand. Samsung's next year flagship for the first half will
be called “Galaxy X.”
I know many are tempted to believe that Samsung was
strongly inspired by Apple's naming scheme for the iPhone X, let's say that the
South Korean company wants simpler names for its most important smartphones.
If Samsung wants simpler names it should avoid
combinations like Galaxy S11 or S12, which could be confusing for customers.
Obviously, the move can also be seen as an attempt for Samsung to better
compete with Apple and the iPhone X series.
One thing worth noting is the “Galaxy X” name was
often used in reports about Samsung's upcoming “foldable smartphone,” so there's
that.
