There are plenty of officially licensed third-party
controllers available for the PlayStation 4 but they all have the same problem:
they need to be connected to the console with a wire. Isn’t this 2018? Go
wireless or go home.
Well, now there’s finally a licensed third-party
controller for the PlayStation 4 that you actually want and it’s called the
Hori Onyx. Yes, it looks like an Xbox One controller, which is weird, but I’ll
take it if it means I can go wireless.
This controller was unveiled last week and is now
available for purchase. Despite that Xbox inspired design, it has all core
controls and direct Bluetooth connectivity alongside its broad grip design, a
touchpad, and dual vibration motors. There’s no speaker or headphone jack and
the lightbar is missing. Again, weird, but it has the right stuff otherwise.
Most of the licensed third-party PS4 controllers are
only available in Europe and the Hori Onyx is the same. It’s available for
purchase in the region starting today. Sony has yet to confirm when it’s going
to be released in the United States. If you’re looking for a wireless
controller for the PS4 you could do worse. You may want to try this one.
