After officially launching their new Crucial MX500
solid state drive (SSD) earlier this month, Crucial has now made available the
premium SATA SSD in a number of different storage options including 250 GB, 500
GB, 1TB, and 2TB. Offering users a 2.5-inch form-factor, with SATA 6 Gbps
interface. Crucial showcased the M.2-2280 variants with SATA interfaces at the
recent CES 2018 technology show, explaining that the Crucial MX500 combines
Micron’s second generation 64-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory, together with a
Silicon Motion SM2258 controller loaded with custom firmware created by
Crucial.
All drives come with five year warranties and are
priced accordingly. The 250 GB model is priced at US$ 80 while the 500 GB drive is
priced at US$ 140, the 1 TB drive at US$ 260 and the massive 2 TB solid state drive
(SSD) priced at US$ 500.
The drives are capable of transfer rates of up to
560 MBs with up to 510 MB/s writes, and 4K random access performance ratings of
up to 95,000 – 91,000 IOPS reads and writes says Crucial. Features of the
drives include Dynamic Write Acceleration (SLC-cached writes), and Redundant
Array of Independent NAND (RAIN).
