Caterpillar is less known in the smartphone
industry, but the devices it brings to the market are definitely among the
sturdiest. Today, the company revealed its new addition to its portfolio of
rugged smartphones – the CAT S41.
The sequel to the CAT S40, the ultra-rugged handset
distinguishes itself from other devices released by Caterpillar through the
huge 5,000 mAh battery. The CAT S41 is a mid-range smartphone that's already
available for purchase via Amazon, Best Buy, eBay, The Home Depot and B&H
for US$ 449.
It ships with Android Nougat on board and features
IP68 certification, which means it's dust and waterproof. On top of that, the
CAT S41 is MIL-SPEC 810G-rated and it's been drop tested to 5 feet 9 inches
onto concrete.
The 5-inch display with full HD (1080p) resolution
is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 coating, and it's been optimized to be
used with wet fingers or gloves. The massive 5,000 mAh battery promises to
offer 38 hours of 3G talk time or 44 days standby. Moreover, the smartphone
comes with a special cable that allows CAT S41 owners to charge other devices
and accessories with the Battery Share power bank feature.
Hardware-wise, Caterpillar's mid-range smartphone
includes a 2.3GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P20 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB
internal memory. There's also a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a secondary
8-megapixel snapper in the front, both of which can be operated underwater.
Finally, the smartphone does LTE/VoLTE and comes
with a special shortcut key that can be predefined to start the Push to Talk
(PTT) service and launch the phone's camera or flashlight.
