Today at the Korean giant's pre-IFA press
conference, the Gear Fit 2 Pro was finally made official, this time for real.
And just as we've already seen, it's little more than an update on an already
existing device, rather than an entirely new model like
the Gear Sport unveiled alongside it.
A SLIGHT UPGRADE OVER THE GEAR FIT 2The major
difference between the Fit 2 and its Pro variant is definitely the design: the
new model comes with two great-looking new strap options. One is the slightly
more understated all-black one, featuring inset striped pattern, and the other
is a stylish black-and red with a three-dimensional geometric pattern. But
they're also functionally better, as they now use a buckle strap, which should
provide a much better hold that the original's.
The second big new feature is one made to appease
the more hardcore users out there: the Fit 2 Pro has considerably better water
resistance than the original, and can now survive up to 5 ATM (50 meters
underwater) of pressure. In practical terms, this makes the device accessible
to swimmers — which is also the reason why the device will be launching with a
new, Speedo-branded swim tracking app on board.
But besides that, this is the same old Gear Fit 2,
down to the 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display, 200 mAh battery, GPS support, and
Tizen operating system. It will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow,
August 31, from Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, Macy's and Samsung.com. Its price is
set at US$ 199, which is just US$ 20 on top of the original's price.
