Coolpad, which you may know as the maker of various
affordable smartphones sold via T-Mobile, this week released a new Android
handset that's being offered unlocked in the US. Called Coolpad Splatter, the
new phone can be bought from Amazon for US$ 139.99.
The Coolpad Splatter doesn't seem to have any
particular strengths, other than being a cheap, decent handset. The smartphone
sports a 5.5-inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 pixels, and is powered by a
Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor aided by 2 GB of RAM. On the back, the device
has an 8 MP camera with LED flash, while the front hosts a 5 MP selfie camera.
Moreover, you're getting 16 GB of expandable storage space, and a 2500 mAh
battery.
Coolpad says the Splatter supports Amazon's Alexa
digital assistant, but it's not clear if this is available out of the box (the
phone's product page at Amazon doesn't mention Alexa at all). In any case, the
handset runs Android 7.0 Nougat, and is compatible with GSM/LTE carriers like
AT&T, T-Mobile, and Cricket.
