The launch of Asus' long-awaited ZenFone 4 line, and
according to it the unveiling date was scheduled for August 19. However, the
original source has since been taken down and replaced by a second, different
invitation, whose supporting text suggests an August 17 date for
the launch event instead.
Front and center here is the company's new Asia
Pacific brand ambassador, actor Gong Yoo, who has previously been teased in a
contest on Asus Taiwan's Facebook page. So seeing as the company has gone to
such lengths with this marketing campaign, we're inclined to believe the August
19 date will be a local launch in the Philippines only, while the August 17
event will play the actual host to the world debut of the ZenFone 4.
But what's most interesting here is probably the
invitation itself, which quite shamelessly displays one of the company's
upcoming devices in full view. We imagine this is the regular ZenFone 4, as the
pictured device's body doesn't feature a camera bump like the ones we've seen
in the ZenFone 4 Max and Pro.
We're also not yet clear on whether this will be a
single device launch event, or if Asus will finally debut the entirety of the
long-delayed ZenFone 4 series. Whatever the case, we're expecting an eventual release
of five different models: the eponymous ZenFone 4, a variant called ZenFone 4V,
a high-specced ZenFone 4 Pro, as well as two mid-rangers, a ZenFone 4 Selfie,
and the already unveiled ZenFone 4 Max.
However, it's worth mentioning that the company has
previously had plans for a separate launch event in Europe, according to a
leaked invitation for a September 21 event in Rome. So even if we do see a
debut of the whole lineup, there's a fair chance people outside of Asia will
have to wait more until they can get their hands on the devices.
