Jide Remix Pro 2-in-1 tablet
At MWC 2016, Chinese company
Jide made heads turn with its innovative take on Android with Remix OS, which reconfigured
the widely popular OS into a form more suitable for desktop-style usage. The
company has now announced the Remix Pro 2-in-1 tablet, the second-gen version
of the Remix OS tablet, to further strengthen its portfolio of hardware running
this platform.
The 12-inch metal-body tablet packs a
sharp 2,160 x 1,440 pixels IPS LCD display along with an octa-core Qualcomm
Snapdragon 652 processor, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB on-board storage with a microSD card
slot for expansion and a 9,000 mAh battery which supports quick charging. The
device is fairly slim at 6.9 mm, weighs just 640 grams and has a 8 MP shooter on
the rear side assisted by a 5 MP front facing camera.
Analogous to Microsoft's Surface tablets
to a certain extent, the tablet comes with a keyboard dock accessory that
switches it to the notebook style usage mode and also acts as a stand for the
tablet. On the software front, the Remix Pro will be the first device to
support Remix OS 3.0, which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Users
currently still have to manually side-load Google Play store to download apps
directly from the market. One of the key features of Remix OS is the fact that
it lets you multitask seamlessly as the apps are packed into freeform windows
as found on other desktop-styled operating systems. A similar approach has been
envisioned by the upcoming Android N OS but is missing from the current crop of
Android tablets, which does affect their usability considerably at times.
The company had
announced a 24-inch All-in-One system last month and has now unveiled a 22-inch
and a 32-inch version of the same as well. Manufactured in partnership with
AOC, the Mars All-in-One PCs use an Amlogic s905 processor, 2 GB of RAM,
Full HD display and offer 16 GB or 64 GB of storage. Joining the Remix OS
bandwagon, Acer announced its 11.6-inch Intel Celeron quad-core processor
powered laptop, the ES1-131, which could prove to be a great offering in the
low-budget range. It boasts 4 GB RAM, 500 GB internal storage and a
standard 1366x768 resolution display.
Jide has not announced any precise
release dates or pricing for the aforementioned products as yet and it seems
that they will be limited to the Chinese market only. However, its worth noting
that Remix OS shows promise with the increasing number of OEMs bundling the
same into their devices and it wouldn't be long before you find such a device
at a store near you.
