Xiaomi Mi Max
Xiaomi Mi Max is what budget-minded fans
of huge screens have been waiting for. And we do mean huge - 6.44" from
corner to corner. That screen is housed in a metal unibody that measures 7.5 mm
thick. The size, plus the massive 4,850 mAh battery, push the weight to a hefty
203 grams.
There are three versions in total. The
top version has a Snapdragon 652 chipset, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage. There's
a 3 GB/64 GB option as well. The most affordable model uses the Snapdragon 650
instead and has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB storage.
The difference in chipset is two extra
Cortex-A72 cores for the CPU (for a total of 4x A72 + 4x A53). Both use the new
generation Adreno 510 GPU, which should be more than powerful enough to drive
the 1080p screen. All three versions have a hybrid dual-SIM slot so that you
can add more storage.
The Xiaomi Mi Max runs the new MIUI 8
(based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow). The phone has a fingerprint sensor on the
back for extra security. The camera department boasts a 16 MP shooter with
dual-LED flash and a 5 MP selfie camera (with an 85° lens).
The Mi Max will be available in Silver,
Light Grey and Gold and will first go on sale on May 17. The S650/3 GB/32 GB
version will cost CNY 1,500 (US$ 230/€ 200), the S652/3 GB/64 GB one is CNY 1,700
(US$ 260/€ 230) and the top S652/4 GB/128 GB model will go for CNY 2,000 (US$ 300/€ 270).
Note that the prices outside of China
will likely be higher once shipping and local taxes are accounted for.
