Dewalt MD501
In this smartphone era, there is no way
of improvements in smartphone design other than sticking to the rectangular bar
shape. Instead of making changes in design, the manufacturers are making the
device slimmer without compromising over the build quality. Other than for
making calls and using for multimedia consumption, nowadays there is also a
huge growth of smartphone usage in industries.
While
regular smartphones can’t withstand for that kind of usage, there are few
rugged smartphones available from the brands like Caterpillar and Panasonic.
Dewalt, the maker of power tools for industrial usage had debuted the
smartphone market with the Android-powered Dewalt MD501 tough smartphone. The
device is priced at £ 379 (US$ 543) and will be available soon
in the market.
The DeWalt MD501 comes with IP68
certification making it both waterproof and dustproof. It can be immersed till
two meters under water for 30 minutes. The company also claims that the MD501
can be operated at any temperature ranging between -20C to 60C. It features a
5-inch HD Gorilla Glass 3 display and is powered by 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6735
quad-core processor.
It can withstand a drop on the concrete
floor from a height of two meters. There is 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage on this
device. It is backed by a 3,020 mAh battery and is the first rugged phone to
offer Qi wireless charging. The device has dual SIM card slots that support 4G
LTE. In the camera department, it has a 13 MP primary camera on the rear and a
5 MP selfie camera on the front.
It measures 156 x 82 x 14 mm and weighs
245 grams. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC,
GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, Beidou, OTG, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. Apart from the tougher
build quality and IP68 certification, the device also includes latest features
like wireless charging that are missing on other rugged smartphones.
