Leica introduced a new variant of the new Leica Q3 with a new 43mm f/2 APO-Summicron ASPH. lens and is arriving in the Philippines soon. The original Leica Q (Typ 116) was originally introduced in June 2015 with the 24MP Full-frame CMOS sensor and the Leica Summilux 28mm f/1.7 lens. Since then, the Q has seen several iterations including the Q-P, Q2, and Q3 with the 28mm lens being a mainstay.
In a surprise move a year after the
original Q3's launch, the legendary camera manufacturer introduced a Q3 variant
but with an all-new lens. The Q3 and the Q43 have very little difference from
each other. The new Q3 43 differs in that it has a new gray leatherette
(instead of black), it has different dimensions and weight and of course, it
has the new 43mm lens. Leica claims that they chose 43mm closely mimics the
visual acuity of the human eye. The new 43mm f/2.0 APO-Summicron is made of 11
elements in 8 groups and features a Macro mode that allows for close focus down
to 26.5cm.
Aside from the difference in lens
dimensions, weight, gray leatherette, and the lens itself, the Q3 43 is nearly
the same as the original Q3. It features a 60.3 Megapixel Full-Frame CMOS
sensor with the Maestro IV processor that stores up to 14-bit DNG photos and up
to DCI 4K 4:2:2 10-bit videos to a single UHS-II slot. It connects wirelessly
through Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi and connects wired through USB-C and micro-HDMI.
At the back of the camera is the 3-inch
1.8 Million-dot Tilting Touch LCD and above it is the built-in 5.76 Million-dot
OLED EVF. Powering the camera is the 2,200mAh BP-SCL6 Lithium-Ion battery that
is rated for over 350 shots per charge. Other features include an External
Flash Shoe Mount and stereo microphone.
The camera is IP52 water and dust resistance rated. It measures 130 x
80.3 x 97.6mm and weighs 772 grams with the battery.

Leica Q3 43 is expected to arrive in the Philippines this early November 2024
through the Leica Store Manila and through Henry's Cameras.
