Smart rings are the new wearable craze with multiple makers launching competing models, but most of them are fairly pricey – for example, a Galaxy Ring is US$ 400, a gen 3 Oura Ring (which is three years old now) still goes for US$ 300. But smart rings don’t have to be expensive as Rollme’s new model demonstrates. The Rollme R3 can be yours for just US$ 90. There are technically two models that precede it, but Rollme launched the R1 in January of this year and the R2 came in March. The R1 is US$ 100 and the R2 is US$ 90.
The R3 comes in several sizes, from 7 to
12, and can be had with a black, silver or gold exterior. Said exterior is made
out of titanium, while the inside is a hypoallergenic epoxy resin, which won’t
irritate your skin. The ring has a 17.5mAh battery built-in, which should last
10 days of regular usage. It comes with a small recharging case, which will
extend the total wearing time to 60 days.
The ring has a heart rate sensor with IR,
red and green LEDs, which can measure your heart rate, heart rate variability
and blood oxygen saturation. It can use this to track your health and exercise
with multiple sports modes (walking, running, cycling, etc.).
The ring is rated for 5 ATM water
resistance and you can take it swimming and even snorkeling, says Rollme. And
at the end of your day, the R3 ring will monitor your sleep with deep and light
sleep detection. The ring has one more use case – gesture control. You can set
the double tap gesture to play/pause audio, take a photo with your phone, start
recording video or, if you’re reading an ebook, flip to the next page.
