Honor is already an established brand in the foldable smartphone market with its Magic V series and today marks a new page with its first clamshell foldable – the Magic V Flip. This is one of the more impressive flip foldables with its key future being the huge 4-inch LTPO OLED cover screen. The outward-facing panel brings a 1,092 x 1,200px resolution (405 ppi), 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to 1,600 nits max brightness, and 2,160 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. It also makes clever use of its large diagonal by splitting content like apps to 16:9 mode for better scaling and supports a horizontal split for watching videos with a control panel on the bottom half.
You also get numerous Always on Display
(AoD) options and the ability to run full-screen apps straight on the cover
display. Honor also added some clever continuity features that automatically
expand your apps when going from the cover screen to the main display. Speaking
of the main display – it’s a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED with FHD+ resolution, a 21:9
aspect ratio and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It also boasts 3,000 nits peak
brightness, covers 92% of the BT.2020 color space and is Dolby Vision
certified.
Magic V Flip folds completely flat and
measures 14.89mm when closed and 7.5mm when unfolded. It uses a proprietary
hinge mechanism developed by Honor with lightweight steel foil components and
an aluminum frame. The device is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
chipset, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage though the entry-level version features
12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Honor also somehow managed to fit a 0.25mm
ultra-thin liquid-cooled VC plate covering a 2,300mm heat dissipation area.
Magic V Flip offers a 50MP main cam with a
Sony IMX906 sensor (1/1.56” size and f/1.9 aperture) with OIS and a 12MP
ultrawide module that doubles as a macro lens. There’s also a 50MP front-facing
camera using the IMX816 sensor which boasts autofocusing capabilities. The
software side is covered by MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14 while the battery
comes in at 4,800 mAh and supports 66W fast charging.
Honor Magic V Flip comes in Iris Black,
Camellia White, and Champagne Pink. There’s also a limited-edition Jimmy Choo
version which features green glitter inspired by high-end shoes and their
crystal ornaments. Pricing for the 12/256GB trim starts at CNY 4,999 which
converts to US$ 690/€ 640. The high-end 16GB RAM and 1TB storage model costs CNY
5,999 (US$ 827/€ 768). Honor has not confirmed if or when the Magic V Flip is
launching internationally.
