HMD is preparing to launch a smartphone under its own brand in India with the name HMD Arrow. The device will be an entirely new handset with 5G connectivity and specs that are way better than the Pulse phones, said one source.
The Arrow name was confirmed by HMD India
on social media X. At first, assumptions were the phone would be a rebranded
Pulse with a Pink color, following a partnership with the Rajasthan Royals
cricket team.
The Mobile Indian claimed the new phone
would offer a “new design” and “upgraded specifications”. The midranger is
expected to cost under INR 20,000 (US$ 235/€ 220) once it launches in
early June.
The source also revealed that 5G-enabled
phones are getting cheaper in India, and HMD is eyeing this market. Currently,
the 5G penetration is calculated at 15% with almost 160 million users, with
Reliance Jio and Airtel networks getting faster over time.
