The Google Pixel 8a just keeps on leaking, and today is no different - in fact, we have two separate leaks to talk about, so let's get right to it. First off, there's another pricing-related rumor, and this one brings better news than the two previous ones. Despite past claims, today's report tells us that the Pixel 8a will be priced identically to the Pixel 7a upon launch, at least in the US market.
So, if this is accurate, then expect the
Pixel 8a to go for US$ 499 with 128GB of storage, and US$ 599 with 256GB. Even if
this does pan out, keep in mind that price increases could still happen in
other markets - in fact, the previous two pricing-related rumors were both
about different markets (Europe and Canada), so while this seems like a
contradiction, it might just be that we're talking about different strategies
for different places.
At the same time, we have some new leaked renders
of the device, these showing the Pixel 8a inside upcoming original Google
cases. And there's a twist. While the phone itself has widely been expected to
come in four colorways, the cases will add a fifth for whatever reason - a
coral-like hue. The Obsidian (aka black) Pixel 8a is shown inside it in these
official-looking images, so it doesn't seem like Google is actually adding a
fifth color to the phone, just offering a fifth case option. Perhaps this
implies there will be a Coral Pixel 8a released down the line, it's impossible
to tell at the moment.
The Pixel 8a is expected to be officially
announced at Google's I/O developer conference on May 14, and it should come
with the Tensor G3 chipset, a 6.1-inch 90Hz OLED screen, a 4,500 mAh battery, a
64 MP main rear camera, a 13 MP ultrawide, and of course Android 14 on board
from day one.
